J + T - Civic Theater New Orelans
Johnny was the groom who recounted how he had seen us at a friend’s wedding in 2021 and told his fiancé that, “if they play one more song, you’re going to have to take me to the hospital because I can’t stop dancing.” He told us this with ABSOLUTE seriousness!
We played a ~600-person fully-produced corporate event (30 foot-tall video screens, and a 50 foot catwalk that the band was performing on, $$$$ in lighting and production,) the Thursday before their wedding in Houston. So we woke up Friday morning with our good vibes from that show and the band loaded into the band van and production team into the production truck and headed to New Orleans a day early to bask in the magic of the French Quarter. Let’s just say we ate an uncomfortable amount of crawfish. Saturday we had a quick set run through at the Civic Theater and then went back to our rooms to get dressed for the night (fun fact, Civic Theater is 3 blocks away from where Danny proposed to his spouse).
Their wedding can only be described as ULTIMATE perfection. Our set was a wild mix of Motown, top 40 pop, hip-hop, 2000s jams, 80s ballads, and some 3-4 songs VERY specific to them; each of which was a smashing success!
On the final song of the night (a mashup that ended in “Circle of Life” from The Lion King … it’s a long story but Danny and the couple had a long Disney talk in one of the pre-wedding phone calls) the horn section snuck off the second story catwalk that they were performing on to go meet the couple in the alley behind the venue. In the alley was a door that lead in to the basement where there was a rising platform that opened through a trapdoor to the side of the stage. So upon hitting the final chord, the trapdoor opened and the bride and groom and 3 horns appeared to the cheers and amazement of the guests. What followed was a true New Orleans second line around the venue! Just looking at these photos from Katie Figura brings so much joy!
