E + C - The Corinthian
The Corinthian has always had a special place in our heart. Going back to 2017 we had two formative events there; one Houston industry celebration that is still one we hear about (“I remember when we first saw you at Corinthian and you were playing ______”) and the other was a wedding in which the couple found exactly what they were looking for in us and entrusted us with the ceremony, production, and full band. So when we were first contacted by Erica & Colton we already had some great feelings going. After their wedding night ended we can confidently say, as much as they are the perfect couple for each other, we were the perfect band for them.
9 months before the wedding they came and saw the band at a open gala the band plays every year. They arrived during the dinner set and talked with Danny during the break. It was a light-hearted very cordial conversation. Common questions about the band, how they determine what songs they play, and how the band at a wedding related to what they had just seen. Danny let them know, “a wedding is very different from the set you just saw. We were just playing background music during dinner … our next set will be TOTALLY different.” Colton came up to Danny after the set with his mind blown. He accurately recounted every single song and transition in a mashup like he had just witnessed some kind of a magic trick. Looking back, my guess it took two songs before they were a solid “this is EXACTLY what we want!”
Their wedding was a chance for us to showcase everything we have worked so hard on to perfect. We got to play a huge roll in everything from the beginning. We played the ceremony as a 4-piece guitarist/vocalist, cellist, violinist, and piano quartet, performed the upstairs cocktail hour as a jazz trio, did a 5 horn second line to lead the guests downstairs, and then played as a 14-piece band with continuous play, overhead trussing, and cold sparks during the first and last dances for the remainder of the night. The production (our spot lighting on the first dances!), band performance and energy, and song choices made for one of the most magical nights of which we have ever been a part!
